Still Life Drawing, Printmaking (Linoleum II)

August 12 - August 16

Key Ideas

  • Learn to draw

  • Learn to shade and crosshatch

  • Learn more techniques with linoleum

Why is it important?

  • The magic of still life paintings is that they can show us a new way of looking at the ordinary objects around us. Once they are placed into a specific arrangement and then captured in paint, - the objects take on a whole new meaning.

  • Still life provides unparalleled learning opportunities for the students. Working with actual objects allows them to observe subjects closely to see exactly how forms connect or how they vary. Depth perception is important in realistic rendering and it’s easier to observe from 3-D objects than a photo.

  • Realistic drawing is especially effective in training the eye to see the thing-as-it-is in its relational proportions.

  • Our classes are a detailed study in light and shadows.

  • Printmaking is the form and process of applying a work of art to another surface. Printmaking can be done on paper, but can also be done on fabric, plastic or other materials.

  • Refresh on previous techniques as well as  learn how to incorporate colors, work with layers, learn mono-printing, and combining different types of printmaking together.
